Setting up the transmitter

1 Connect the transmitter to an AV component.

Select one of the hookups below depending on the jack

type:

Operation

Listening to a programme

Before listening

To reduce the risk of hearing damage, first lower the volume.

1 Turn on the AV component connected to the

transmitter.

If the transmitter is connected to the headphone jack, set

the volume control of the audio source component as

high possible but not so high that the audio signal

becomes distorted.

2 Remove the headphones from the transmitter.

The transmitter’s POWER indicator lights up in green.



Disposal of waste batteries (applicable

in the European Union and other

European countries with separate

collection systems)

This symbol on the battery or on the

packaging indicates that the battery provided with this

product shall not be treated as household waste.

On certain batteries this symbol might be used in

combination with a chemical symbol. The chemical symbols

for mercury (Hg) or lead (Pb) are added if the battery

contains more than 0.0005% mercury or 0.004% lead.

By ensuring these batteries are disposed of correctly, you

will help prevent potentially negative consequences for the

environment and human health which could otherwise be

caused by inappropriate waste handling of the battery. The

recycling of the materials will help to conserve natural

resources.

In case of products that for safety, performance or data

integrity reasons require a permanent connection with an

incorporated battery, this battery should be replaced by

qualified service staff only.

To ensure that the battery will be treated properly, hand over

the product at end-of-life to the applicable collection point

for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.

For all other batteries, please view the section on how to

remove the battery from the product safely. Hand the battery

over to the applicable collection point for the recycling of

waste batteries.

product or battery, please contact your local Civic Office,

your household waste disposal service or the shop where

you purchased the product.

The effective areas of the

transmitter

The optimum distance is up to approximately 100 m without

the system picking up some interference. However, the

distance may vary depending on the surroundings and

environment. If the system picks up some noise within the

above mentioned distance, reduce the distance between the

transmitter unit and the headphones, or select another

channel.



When you use the headphones inside the effective areas of the

transmitter, the transmitter can be placed in any direction from the

listener.



Even within the signal reception area, there are some spots (dead

spots) where the RF signal cannot be received. This characteristics

is inherent to RF signals, and does not indicate malfunction. By

slightly moving the transmitter, location of the dead spot can be

changed.

Checking the remaining

battery power

Turn on the switch located on the left housing of the

headphone, and check the POWER indicator located on the

left housing. The battery are still serviceable when the

indicator lights up green.

Charge the rechargeable battery if the POWER indicator

light dims, flashes, or the sound becomes distorted or noisy.

Replacing the earpads

The earpads are replaceable. If the earpads become dirty or

worn out, replace them as illustrated below. The earpads are

not commercially available. You can order replacements

from the store where you purchased this system, or at your

nearest Sony dealer.

1 Remove the old earpad by pulling it out of the

groove on the housing.

2 Place the new earpad on the driver unit.

Hang the edge of the earpad on one side of the driver

unit’s groove edge, then turn the edge of earpad around

the driver unit as illustrated below.

When the earpad is securely inserted into the groove,

adjust the earpad to the vertical position.

Additional information

Troubleshooting

If you run into any problems using this headphone system,

use the following checklist. Should any problem persist,

consult your nearest Sony dealer.

No sound



Check the connection of the audio/video equipment or the AC

power adaptor.



Check that the audio/video equipment is turned on.



Turn up the volume on the connected audio/video equipment

within the range where the sound is not distorted, if the

transmitter is connected to the headphones jack.



Change the radio frequency with the CHANNEL selector on the

transmitter, then press the AUTO TUNING button on the right

housing of the headphones.



The mute function is activated.



Use the headphones near the transmitter.



Change the position of the transmitter.



The headphones’ POWER indicator light turns off, dims, flashes,

or sound becomes distorted or noisy.



Charge the rechargeable battery. If the POWER indicator is still

off after charging the battery, take the headphones to a Sony

dealer.

Distorted or intermittent sound

(sometimes with noise)



Charge the rechargeable battery. If the POWER indicator is still

off after charging the battery, take the headphones to a Sony

dealer.



Change the position of the transmitter.



Do not place the transmitter on a metallic table.



If you connect the transmitter to an AV component using the

headphone jack, lower the volume level on the connected AV

component within the range where the sound is not distorted.



Change the radio frequency with the CHANNEL selector switch

on the transmitter, then set to the same radio frequency with the

AUTO TUNING button on the right housing of the headphones.



Use the headphones near the transmitter.

Low sound



If you connect the transmitter to an AV component using the

headphone jack, raise the volume level on the connected AV

component within the range where the sound is not distorted.



Raise the headphone volume.

Loud background noise



If you connect the transmitter to an AV component using the

headphone jack, raise the volume level on the connected AV

component within the range where the sound is not distorted.



Charge the rechargeable battery. If the POWER indicator is still

off after charging the battery, take the headphones to a Sony

dealer.



Do not place the transmitter on a metallic table.



Use the headphones near the transmitter.



Stereo Headphone System. Before operating the unit, please

read this manual thoroughly and retain it for future reference.

Notes on receiving

performance

This system utilises very high frequency signals in the 800

MHz band so the receiving performance may deteriorate

due to the surroundings. The following examples illustrate

conditions that may reduce the reception range or cause

interference.



Inside a building with walls containing steel beams



An area with many steel file cabinets, etc.



An area with many electrical appliances capable of

generating electromagnetic fields



The transmitter is placed on a metal instrument.



An area facing a roadway



Noise or interfering signals exist in the surroundings due

to radio transceivers in trucks, etc.



Noise or interfering signals exist in the surroundings

owing to wireless communication systems installed along

roadways.

Preparation

Checking the components and

accessories

Before setting up the system, check that all of the

components are included.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose

this apparatus to dripping or splashing, and do not place

objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.

Do not expose the batteries (battery pack or batteries

installed) to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like

for a long time.

To avoid electrical shock, do not open the cabinet. Refer

servicing to qualified personnel only.

Do not install the appliance in a confined space, such as a

bookcase or built-in cabinet.

As the main plug of AC power adaptor is used to disconnect

the AC power adaptor from the mains, connect it to an

easily accessible AC outlet. Should you notice an

abnormality in it, disconnect it from the AC outlet

immediately.

Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones

can cause hearing loss.

The nameplate is located on the bottom exterior.

The validity of the CE marking is restricted to only those

countries where it is legally enforced, mainly in the

countries EEA (European Economic Area).

3 Select the radio frequency with the CHANNEL

selector switch.

4 Turn on the switch on the left housing of the

headphones.

Check if the power indicator on the left housing lights

up green. Adjust the headband of the headphones, and

place the right housing  on your right ear and the left

housing  on your left ear.

There is a tactile dot on the hanger marked  to

distinguish the left side.

5 Set the channel to that of the transmitter with the

button on the right housing of the headphones.

Press the AUTO TUNING button briefly for automatic

tuning of the headphones. If you do not receive a clear

audio signal or changed the CHANNEL selector switch

on the transmitter, press it again.

When tuning has completed, turn up the volume to a

moderate level with the VOL control on the right

housing. Turn the VOL control towards the dot to turn

up the volume.

Notes



When watching films, be careful not to raise the volume too

high in quiet scenes. You may hurt your ears when a loud scene

is played.



This equipment is guaranteed for use in the temperature range

of 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F).



You may hear some noise when you disconnect the AC power

adaptor from the transmitter before removing the headphones.

After use

Turn off the power of the headphones.

Note

Note that battery capacity may decrease if the headphones are turned

on and placed on the transmitter with the AC power adaptor

disconnected from the transmitter.

Sending RF signals from the transmitter

The transmitter starts sending RF signals automatically

when it detects an audio signal from the connected

equipment.

Notes



Any noise you hear through the headphones may vary depending

on the transmitter position and room conditions. It is

recommended that you place the transmitter in a location that

produces the clearest sound.



If the transmitter is placed on a metallic table, you may hear noise,

or the reception range may decrease.

Do not place the transmitter on a metallic table.

If an audio signal is not input for about 5

minutes

RF signal transmission from the transmitter automatically

stops when an audio signal is not input for about 5 minutes.

When the transmitter stops, the transmitter’s POWER

indicator blinks in green for 60 seconds and then turns off.

The RF signals are automatically transmitted when an audio

signal is input again. RF signal transmission may stop when

an extremely low sound is input for about 5 minutes. If this

happens, raise the volume of the connected AV component

within the range where the sound is not distorted, and lower

the volume of the headphones.

If signal noise is output from a component connected to the

AUDIO IN jacks, RF signal transmission may not stop.

Noise Reduction process

The transmitter unit compresses the audio signal and

converts it to RF signal. The headphones unit converts the

received RF signal to an audio signal and decompresses it.

This process reduces noise picked up during transmission.

reduces the noise level and improves the S/N (signal-to-

noise) ratio.



Insert the plug firmly.



Be sure to use the supplied AC power adaptor. Using AC

adaptors with different plug polarity or other characteristics

can cause product failure.

Unified polarity plug



Be sure to always use the supplied AC power adaptor. Even AC

power adaptors having the same voltage and plug polarity can

damage this product due to the current capacity or other

factors.

2 Place the headphones on the transmitter so that

the headphones’ contact point meets the

transmitter’s contact pin, and make sure that the

CHG indicator lights up.

It takes approximate 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery

(the CHG indicator goes off when charging is complete).

When the transmitter’s contact pin meets the

headphones’ contact point, the CHG indicator on the

top of the left housing lights up in red.

Confirm that the headphones make a "click" sound

when you put then on the transmitter.

When the headphones are correctly placed on the

transmitter, the upper surface of the headphones

becomes level with the transmitter.

Time may vary, depending on the temperature or conditions of

use.

If the CHG indicator is not lit

The indicator will not light up if the headphones’ contact

point does not meet the transmitter’s contact pin. In this

case, remove the headphones and insert them in the

transmitter again so that the indicator lights up.

To recharge the headphone battery after use

Place the headphones on the transmitter after use. The CHG

indicator lights up, and then charging starts.

When charging is complete, there is no need to remove the

headphones from the transmitter after charging has

completed.



The transmitter automatically turns off while charging the battery.



Avoid exposure to temperature extremes, direct sunlight, moisture,

sand, dust or mechanical shock.



If the headphones are used outside the recommended temperature

range, the CHG indicator flashes and charging stops. Charge in an

environmental temperature of between 5°C and 35°C.



If you haven’t used the headphones for a long period of time, the

life of the rechargeable battery may become short. This will

improve when you repeat the charging and discharging process

several times.



When the battery life reduces to half, this may be the end of battery

lifetime. For how to change batteries, consult your place of purchase

or a Sony dealer.



Do not store the headphones in hot places for a long period of time.

When storing it for more than a year, charge the battery once a year

to prevent over discharge.



Do not touch the contact pin of the transmitter. If a contact pin

becomes dirty, charging may not be possible.



Charging may not be completed if the transmitter’s contact pin and

headphones’ contact point are dusty. Wipe them with a cotton bud,

etc.

The sound cuts off



The transmitter stops transmitting if no signal is input for 5

minutes.



If you connect the transmitter to an AV component using the

headphone jack, raise the volume level on the connected AV

component within the range where the sound is not distorted.

The battery cannot be charged



Check if the CHG indicator turns on. If not, put the headphones

on the transmitter correctly so that the CHG indicator turns on.



The transmitter’s contact pin and headphones’ contact point are

dusty.



Wipe them with a cotton bud, etc.



You are attempting to charge the battery in an environment

outside the recommended temperature range of between 5°C and

35°C. You cannot charge while the CHG indicator flashes.



Charge in an environmental temperature of between 5°C and

35°C.



Check that the AC power adaptor is connected to the transmitter.

Precautions



If the transmitter is not to be used for a long period of

time, disconnect the AC power adaptor from the AC

outlet by holding the plug. Do not pull on the cord.



Do not leave the wireless stereo headphone system in a

location subject to direct sunlight, heat or moisture.

Notes on headphones

To reduce the risk of hearing damage

Avoid using headphones at high volume. Hearing experts

advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If you

experience a ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or

discontinue use.

Caring for others

Keep the volume at a moderate level. This will allow you to

hear outside sounds and to be considerate to the people

around you.

If you have any questions or problems concerning the

system that are not covered in this manual, please consult

your nearest Sony dealer.

Be sure to bring the headphones and the transmitter to the

Sony dealer when requiring repair work.
